Description
Transformations in the world of work along with technological change may lead to the empowerment of diverse individuals and social groups but may also add to the socio-economic polarisation. The research challenge is to improve our understanding of how individual health as well as institutional and behavioural factors may relate to the capabilities, incentives and labour market outcomes of heterogeneous individuals. Appropriate consideration of inherent individual differences in economic policy and institutional design may lead to both improvements in individual wellbeing as well as increased efficiency in the use of human capital.
The research undertaken as part of the PhD project has a primarily empirical as well as a policy oriented focus. The conceptual underpinnings of the PhD project are broadly at the intersection of institutional economics, labour economics and industrial organisation theories. The main research output of this PhD project is 3-4 academic papers (incl. at least one single authored) published or accepted by high quality Scopus/WoS indexed journals by the end of the nominal study period. The position combines PhD studies with research related and other tasks as Early Stage Researcher, working under the instructions of the supervisor and senior research group members.
This PhD project is related to the European Commission Horizon 2020 research project “Individual Behaviour and Economic Performance: Methodological Challenges and Institutional Context” (IBEP), led by Tallinn University of Technology, in collaboration with Aalto, Helsinki and Tel Aviv universities.
Applicants should fulfil the following requirements:
- Relevant experience in econometric modelling
- Master’s degree in economics or finance or other area strongly supporting research on this PhD project
